Originally from Lanarkshire, vocalist Joanne O’Donnell grew up steeped in the traditional music of her Scottish homeland. An early interest in music led her to learn multiple instruments and group music was a focus from the start. Joanne participated in orchestras, wind ensembles, musical comedy and choirs before settling on the intimate setting of the three-part, close-harmony acoustic formation of Laverock. Today, voice is her chosen instrument, enabling the expression of the emotion that is so present in the work of Robert Burns. A long-standing love of Irish and Scottish dance and a fascination with the Scots tongue of her childhood further intensified her passion for Burns’ work and the simple yet beautiful melodies so characteristic of the Laverock sound.
